The GBHS held a vigil in memory of the victims of the mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina on June 20, 2015. On June 17, 2015, a mass shooting occurred, in which nine African Americans were killed and a tenth was injured during a Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. Emanuel AME is one of the oldest Black churches in the United States, and it has long been a center for civil rights organizing.
