Theory: Jonathan Butler lost his land in Woolwich Township (west of thand River) because it was part of the Clergy Reserves.
They could not purchase the land they squatted on, even though they had cleaned lots, started farms, put up fencing, built homes, laid roads and other improvements.
Around 1850 they were offered a deal to purchase the land they had settled on and some could not afford the terms
